One way of organizing your prayers, to help us pray more broadly
Much of our talking to God will be spontaneous, during the day. It is talking to our heavenly Father, in praise, thanks, confession and asking him for things. Yet when we only pray spontaneously, we don’t pray broadly for things that God understands as important. These things are often not immediately on our minds and so we don’t pray for them.
Simply put, we pray more if we plan to pray. A helpful way to broaden our prayers is by having a list of things to pray for each day. This makes praying for a wide range of things possible (since we don’t feel overwhelmed ‘what should I pray for today’ each time we pray). To do this we need to plan some time in a day to pray to God.
When you plan to pray, do it at a certain time during the day.
For example, .
One person, when driving to work, was going to stick this list on their dashboard
and pray for 10 minutes.
Another said they could do this at work during a break they had,
where they weren’t with others (and read their bible at the same time).
Another will do it as soon as they wake up.
Another will do it when the kids go to preschool/school, or their child goes
down for a nap.
This is just one example:
i. Each day start with A.C.T.
Adoration- praise God for who he is;
Confession- say sorry for disobedience;
Thanks- thank God for all you have received, spiritually and physically
And then pray to him each day for
your family
an area of godliness in your life
non- Christians and opportunities to share Jesus
ii. Then each day of the week you also pray for (these are just examples below):
Monday: leaders and people at church, different ministries at church, and the overseers
Tuesday: your growth group (you could change this to the day your group is on)
Wednesday: extended family (Christians and non-Christians). Government,
Thursday: Missionaries, Summerfest, Bible colleges,
Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (FIEC).
Friday: World affairs (stuff you see on the news), our government,
law enforcing (police, military and courts)
Saturday: Persecuted Christians, Other Christian leaders
Sunday: Church (including where to sit, who to speak to, preaching, music,
hearing God speak to me through his Word)
You could put anything in these lists and you could have less days if that is more realistic for you (like Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
