One way of organizing your prayers,

to help us pray more broadly

Much of our talking to God will be spontaneous, during the day.  It is talking to our heavenly Father, in praise, thanks, confession and asking him for things. Yet often a helpful way to broaden our prayers, so that we pray for things that are not immediately on our minds, can be by having a list of things to pray for each day.  This makes praying for a wide range of things possible. To do this we need to plan some time in a day to pray to God.   This is just one example:

i. Each day start with ACT

Adoration- praise God for who he is;

Confession- say sorry for disobedience;

Thanks- thank God for all you have received, spiritually and physically)

And then pray to him each day for

your family

an area of godliness in your life

non- Christians and opportunities to share Jesus

ii. Then each day of the week you also pray for:

Monday: leaders and people at church, different ministries at church, and the overseers

Tuesday: your growth group (you could change this to the day your group is on, or day after)

Wednesday: extended family (Christians and non-Christians). Government,

Thursday: Missionaries, Summerfest, Bible colleges, Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (FIEC).

Friday: World affairs (stuff you see on the news), our government, law enforcing (police, military and courts)

Saturday: Persecuted Christians, Other Christian leaders

Sunday: Church

You could put anything in these lists and you could have less days if that is more realistic for you (like Monday, Wednesday, Friday).  If you have a go, tell me what you think.

Other ideas for things to pray for:

Pray for the plans of God to come about

·        that everything will be brought under Jesus (Eph 1:9-10)

·        that he will build his church in number and godliness (Matt 16:18)

·        that we will be transformed to be like Jesus – good prayer for everyone in your GG (2 Cor 3:18)

·        that we will all do good works. (Titus 2:10) Good prayer if you pray thought he church directory

·        that we will persevere in our trust and godliness in the midst of hardships- for those in church struggling (Acts 4, Roman 8:28)

·        that we will enjoy, love and be satisfied in God (Matt 13:44-46; Acts 16:34)

Pray in light of God’s promises

  • Wisdom (James 1:15)

A way out during temptation (1 Cor 10:13)

  • Forgiveness of our sins (1 John 1:9)
  • Sustenance in difficult times (Ps 55:22)
  • Impossibility of separation from God (Rom 8:37-39)
  • The assured future new heavens and earth (Rev 21:4)

How to do a Prayer Triplet

1. Aim for 3 people (same sex is best) in the group.  This means that you can still pray even if someone is away. Maybe consider people in your growth group, or those not in a growth group.

2. Time needed: 1 hour per week (best to meet weekly, because if it's every second week, and you miss one, then you don't meet for a whole month).  Make sure you keep it to an hour, otherwise it becomes too big a commitment and makes it harder to meet each week.  Make a time and place convenient to everyone

3.    a. Read the bible, discuss and pray from it, for 20 mins.

Choose a NT letter, as it's easier to apply (say Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, 1 or 2        Timothy, Titus).  Look for things that stood out.  Things you don't get.  Things that the        passage says about God, Jesus, the Spirit, sin, salvation and living the Christian life.  Keep    this part short.  If there is lots of extra stuff to talk about, look it up during the week.

       b. Share prayer points.  Choose 3 local non- Christians to pray for each week and share        how you are going in inviting them to hear the gospel or to church or sharing the gospel        yourself. This part is absolutely vital, as God will use us to bring people to hear the gospel    and be saved!  Perhaps if we don't have any local non-Christians contacts, it will   encourage us to think of some we can develop.

Share other prayer points for yourself.  Take care not to let this blow out in time.  Take        notes of each others prayer points, so that each week it becomes quicker (as some things will not change week to week).

       c. Pray.  Pray for your non- Christian contacts and other prayer points

4. Keep everything confidential.  As time goes on, the relationships will develop, and this allows each other to support, encourage, and spur one another along.

5. Meet for 6 months or 1 year, no longer.  Make sure this is clear when you first start.  After 6 months or a year, multiply the group.  Go and find 2 other people to prayer with from Northern Lakes, so that we can have many more people praying for God's work to be done in and through us.
